Two weeks back Miza had a flight to Frankfurt and I was so excited for a girls’ day out with her. This is something I miss terribly. Don’t get me wrong, I have friends here and there’s also Fairoz’s cousins. But they are Fairoz’s cousins and they are boys. They do not understand my needs. The need to have alone time with a girlfriend to just chat and gossip.
I do not get much opportunity to just have a girls’ day out here and that to with someone who shares the same interests as me – coffee, cakes, beauty, fashion (modest fashion specifically), taking countless of OOTDs, and shopping! It has also been months since I last had a haircut or had my nails done. I know these things sound frivolous but these are some of the things I enjoy doing with my sisters and girlfriends.
Seriously, who in Frankfurt knows who Vivy Yusof is or even heard of brands such as Duck Scarves, Tudung People, Sugarscarf, Fashionvalet and such. Hands up if you do! We can have coffee and cakes – I know a couple of good places here. 😉
When it comes to food reviews, I usually let Fairoz blog about it while I edit his photos and article. He is the food connoisseur despite not being able to cook. Lol!
But this time around, I am the ‘food critic’. I don’t have a choice cause Fairoz did not join me for a girls’ day out with Miza who was in town for the weekend. Meanwhile, Fai had his boys night with his cousins.
So, when Miza told me that she had a flight to Frankfurt, of course I was extremely excited. I get excited when I am able to meet any Singaporean – family, friends, or acquaintances. Somehow they make me feel a little less homesick.
Since Miza’s time in Frankfurt was pretty short. I had to think of places for us to hangout. I initially wanted to bring her to Guter Bulle, but Marriott is on the other end of the U4 line.
Then I thought of Pandan, but why bring a Singaporean to a Malay restaurant? I know I miss Malay food very much but Miza can get it anytime she wants when she’s back in Singapore. Miza then suggested Thai Fun but I was a little sick of Thai Fun to be honest. So I turned to Google and found Moustache, a restaurant serving Halal Balkan food in Sachsenhausen.
Last week was supposed to be a week of respite for Fairoz and I. Whenever our colleagues asked what were our plans for the one week break, we told them that we will be hibernating in our apartment.
We also had high hopes of catching up on our favourite shows. We intended to Netflix and chill. But, that wasn’t the case! The week went by so fast and we were running errands almost daily. I was also ambitious enough thinking that I will accomplish all the things on my list.
My uncompleted list:
- Edit travel vlogs from December. Not forgetting blogging as well (not done)
- OB/GYN Appointment – done
- Dental Appointment – done
- Laundry (which is never-ending) – I have a new pile now.
- Catch up on my TV shows (Jane the Virgin and Agents of Shield) – did not start on any
- Pay back my fast while it is still Winter!!! Just three more days left – I am now down to my last day. Hurray!!
- Explore Frankfurt Museums (cause we haven’t been to any since moving here) – still not done.
- Go to Kleinmarkhalle – heard the oysters are good and they have other fresh seafood too!
- Buy groceries – managed to get this done!
- Start cooking again – Cooked three times since last week! Yay!!
- Finish reading at least one book – I am only a few pages in.
And before I could complete the above list, Fairoz and I are back at work and this is the busiest time of the school term as term two is ending.
Despite all of that, I did enjoy my break. Fai and I spent our weekend in Walldorf playing Harry Potter Cluedo with his cousins. It was so much fun. Those boys are so competitive!
I honestly can’t wait for our next break. We’re planning to head over to London (I know you must be thinking… again?) and Birmingham. InsyaAllah.

Ok, so recently I shared my evening skincare routine on my instagram – @nuralbukhari, and the last time I talked about skincare or anything beauty related was probably in 2015.
My skincare has changed so much in the last couple of years but my skin, unfortunately hasn’t. My skin goes through good days and bad days. Mostly bad days. But still, I am determined to conquer my skin woes – adult acne.
Ok, this time around I am going to try something different. I shall let the pictures speak for themselves and summarise my entire Holland trip in one blog post.
If you have been following us, you’d already know that currently we are living in Frankfurt, and this means travelling around Europe is much easier when you are based in Europe.
Last month, during our Autumn break, we headed out to Amsterdam together with our good friend, Clara, who came to visit us all the way from Singapore. We began our journey boarding the ICE train from Frankfurt Hauptbanhof to Amsterdam Centraal. A four hour train ride that’s not really that long in my honest opinion. Besides, there’s a bistro on board the train if you are feeling a little peckish during your travel. But, I’d suggest packing your own drinks and snacks. The bordbistro can be quite expensive!
Amsterdam the city is a little confusing. Maybe cause we thought that Amsterdam is big and our Airbnb booking claimed that it was within the city. But in reality, Amsterdam is actually quite small and our Airbnb booking was completely outside of Amsterdam, in Haarlem! Haarlem is about 20 minutes by train from Amsterdam Centraal itself, and we only found out that it is not a part of Amsterdam when we asked how to get to Haarlem at the train station.
Transport in Holland is also really expensive. No wonder everyone has a bicycle! Despite staying 20 minutes out of Amsterdam and taking the expensive train every single day into the city, we had a blast!
Holland in essence is a gorgeous city. Everywhere you go is picture perfect!
